Baking Banocolate!

(I tried to think of something relating to muffins that began with B to continue the alliteration but couldn't find anything, so I avoided it altogether. Alliteration is awesome but it causes headaches, kids).

Today we had snow (in March? is this really necessary, weather god?) and, if it wasn't snowing, it was teeming down with rain. All in all a very miserable day.

Days like this, however, are made immeasurably better by spending a little time in the kitchen baking some delicious goodies. I sat down with my favourite book of Nigella's, Kitchen, pondering over what I should bake, and made my decision based on a sad little group of over-ripe bananas on our kitchen table.

Nigella calls them Banana Chocolate Muffins but I thought, if Banoffee is an acceptable conglomeration of words, why not Banocolate? I think it has a kind of ring to it, so I shall be referring to this flavour combination as such henceforth.

I deviated from Nigella slightly by throwing in some dark chocolate chips in addition to the cocoa powder, and I think they were a definite Good Thing. The chocolatey-ness is not too sweet and overpowering over the banana, it's a nice balance. Also nicely moist on account of the banana, they're totally rad and delicious. I shall be baking these again fo'sho!

Easy-Peasy Chocolate Chip Hazelnut Cookies

I made these tasty babies, as a treat for some nice people in my life. They might just be the easiest cookies to make, ever, and taste deliciously buttery.

Ingredients
5oz self-raising flour
4oz butter
2oz caster sugar
Handful dark chocolate chips
Handful chopped hazelnuts (you can leave these out if you prefer and just have chocolate chip cookies)

Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 4/180c/350f, and grease two baking trays.
Rub the butter into the rest of the ingredients, until the mixture resembles a fine crumb.
Roll the dough into small balls approximately 1" in diameter, and place on the baking trays about 2" apart (they will expand quite a lot in the oven). Flatten the cookies slightly with the back of a fork or spoon.
Bake in the middle of the oven for 10-12 minutes, until pale gold. Or, leave them in to go a little darker - I prefer them like this, they taste almost caramelised whereas when they're paler they taste like a crunchy version of shortbread.
Leave to cool on a wire rack, then enjoy!

Weekend wish list

Fujifilm Instax Mini camera
I really really want an instant camera. I have a Polaroid 600, but I just cannot justify the cost of the film for it, it's too ridiculous. Plus, what if they stop selling the film again? Maybe I'm just finding excuses to justify my increasing collection of cameras, but it is pretty cute, no? I might just treat myself after pay day next week...

OMG, I die for these shoes. Seriously, they don't get more amazing than this - and a walkable heel height!

A giant cupcake tin? Mine please. Thanks.

I have quite a large number of cutesy whimsical pendant necklaces, and I reckon this unicorn pendant from Accessorize would fit in my collection quite nicely.
